Choose your friends carefully...When you lead people follow! They will listen to you, watch you, and mimic what you do.

“People inspire you, or they drain you – pick them wisely.” – Hans Hensen

I would add to this great quote that they also impact who you are!

Knowing that, there is great responsibility, importance, and impact on representing yourself to the world. This is done in so many ways. It used to be people would say, “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”. While that might have been true in the past, you can’t escape your “normal life” into an alter personality anymore, not  today. There are almost 200 million smartphones (with a camera) in use all around you. Your friends document your life for you, even if you haven’t snapped a picture.

How do you make sure you are being seen, heard, and copied as the person you truly want to be?

what-happens-in-vegasYou must choose your friends with wisdom and care. Our friends will form and shape who we become. Some say, I can hang out with them but I don’t do what they do. Yes, you can make wise choices, but because the world is on display (facebook, twitter, instagram, youtube, and more), you are and will be known by the company you keep AND have kept! It used to be easy to just change your behavior and represent yourself in a better light, but now anyone with a computer or phone can also look at your past. That could be a college, future employer, or possibly even future spouse.

The greatest definition of a leader I’ve ever heard is from John Maxwell. He says it very simply, “leaders have followers”. What are you doing that people are going to follow?

Lets set a great example in what we do, what we say, and who we choose to allow to impact who we are!
